When in #Sarajevo don't miss #Avlija #Courtyard @restoranavlija #Redesign #Restaurant in a courtyard of the Karkin family house with a glass-covered roof and lots of greenery, rustic features and photographs of old Sarajevo, cobblestones and wooden tables and benches that are covered with colorful, traditional tablecloths. It is a true #BosnianStyle courtyard-avlija hidden from view, it’s as though it has been made for spending a long time in the company of friends, in a comfortable atmosphere and with excellent food. #WeekendVibes #FoodAndWine #Love and #Happiness #VisitSarajevo #FollowMeInSarajevo #Sarajevogram #RestaurantsInSarajevo

I don’t have enough characters on an insta post to do justice to the atrocities that happened in #BosniaHerzegovina during the war here in 1992-95. You’re never far from a cemetery in this country and as such, it would be a disservice as a visitor here I think to not spend time discovering its past. Some things I can recommend doing to learn about the conflict first hand include: seeing the #Sarajevo Tunnel and visiting Gallery 11/07/95 (truly the best and most emotionally powerful photographic exhibition I’ve ever seen). Taking a tour with a local guide is also a must. Mine grew up during the siege and his stories from this time were truly remarkable. He explained the red stains (pictured) around the city are ‘Sarajevo Roses’ and mark sites where people were killed. My tour guide took us to the mountains above the city, where now abandoned structures used to be inhabited by snipers. I’ve also included some dilapidated buildings here in this gallery from #Mostar, since people only ever usually see its famous bridge and not much else! If you’re a reader, there’s a great book called ‘Goodbye Sarajevo’ which provides good insight into this tragic historical period, too 🇧🇦
